In 1924 Mr Joseph Ashton Evans registered Ashton Engineering Co Ltd at its present Floodgate Street address. Throughout the last 75 years we have been involved within the motor industry.

          At the time of registration the company was building their own motor cars under the name ‘Ashton Evans’ and supplying tools and equipment for motor vehicle repairers.  The depression in the thirties saw the car making finish but the sales and service of garage equipment has continued up to the present day. Over the years other specialised work has been done. We are universally known throughout the area as ‘THE’ place for sales and service of carburettors but this has declined due to the introduction of fuel injection systems. Amongst many other lines we had a hydraulic tube drawing plant as well as a production line for flexible hydraulic hoses. For many years we were a major supplier of replacement Cord pistons and rings with a machine shop able to produce one off’s. We even patented our own model of steam cleaner.

          Throughout our history we have supplied and serviced garage equipment. Over the last few years this part of the company has expanded to cater for the demands of the equipment to comply with Health & Safety requirements.  We are able to load test all lifting equipment, from bottle & trolley jacks up to floor cranes. We also have torque machines for testing repaired air tools and a selection of liquids for testing repaired air operated pumps.

          Our customer base mainly comes from public transport, for example National Express/Travel West Midlands, Stage Coach and Arriva Bus Companies. Our clients also include government organisations such as local councils and colleges. Franchised dealers in new heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches in our local area are also covered.

We undertake single repairs and service contracts for annual or six monthly load testing. We can also carry out maintenance work if required.

          We have a mature workforce with skilled engineers and qualified Health & Safety personnel who are able to meet the demands placed on them with courteousness, speed and accuracy to provide a first class service. Ashtons are situated in central Birmingham to which our coverage expands normally around a thirty-mile radius from our base.
